Melbourne based Cajun band – Cajun Roux, New CD Gumbo now available, 60 minutes of traditional Cajun music, I use this CD for my dance classes, and the band for my Dance displays. The best Cajun traditional band in Australia. Balfa Toujours a fantastic traditional Cajun band from Louisiana, Vocalist and Multi-Instrumentalist Christine Balfa , daughter of the late Dewey Balfa, one of the famous Balfa brothers, with her husband Dirk Powell on accordion and Kevin Wimmer on fiddle. This band performed at the Harrietville Bluegrass & Traditional Country Music Convention in 2000, plus an Australian tour including two gigs at the East Brunswick Club Hotel in Melbourne where I had the pleasure of dancing to their great music, and playing rub-board in the support band with Andy Baylor and his Cajun Combo. |

Andy is a good friend as well as a fantastic musician. Andy gave me my first break into performing with my Rub-board. Andy plays great Cajun, Jazz & Blues music. Check out his CD – “Arcadiana”. His band Andy Baylor and his Cajun Combo play regularly in Melbourne, and always welcomes Margot to play with them.. |

Billy Abbott plays in all of these great bands. He has been very supportive of me playing rub-board & I’ve played with these great musicians numerous times at the Rainbow Hotel in Fitzroy, and the Central Club Richmond, Corner Hotel, Richmond, the Cornish Arms Hotel in Brunswick, and the Nash Hotel in Richmond, doing Zydeco & Cajun music as well as great music to dance to. |

From Louisiana, contemporary Cajun & Swamp Pop band…”at the forefront of the new breed of traditional-but-progressive Louisiana bands..” We were lucky to have them in Melbourne in February 2001. Margot had so much fun dancing until 1am both nights. Margot also got to met them and Cajun dance at the Cajun French Music Awards in Lafayette in Louisiana USA in Sept. 2001, and Festivals Acadiens at Lafayette, in 2003, and Mardi Gras 2004. One of the favourite Cajun bands and popular to dance and listen to. A must see if in Louisiana. Current CD’s available in Australia through Shock records. |

A great Cajun accordion player who I met in Louisiana in 2003, and who played at the Festivals Acadiens, which I attended. In the 1970’s he played with the legendary Balfa Brothers, and can be seen regularly performing at Randol’s Cajun Restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana. I was lucky enough to met and talk with Ray and even play in his band in Louisiana in 2004. Ray has, with Margot’s encouragement and assistance, been accepted to perform in Australia at the National Folk Festival in Canberra, Easter 2005, with some Melbourne based Cajun musicians to perform for Margot’s Cajun dance workshop, a Cajun dance and some concert performances. |

A great Cajun band in Michigan USA led by my friend Garry Kaluzny . Playing good Cajun dance music, and I got to play with them during my visit and attending two Cajun festivals with Garry in 2001. Garry also run a Cajun radio program called Michigumbo that I listen to on the web at www.wcbn.org |

JAY CORMIER |

Jay Cormier, is a great Cajun accordion musician, who plays regularly at the original Cajun Restaurant, Mulate’s in Breaux Bridge, in Louisiana. On both my stays in Breaux Bridge, Jay has invited me to play in his band with my rub-board. Great Cajun music on a great dance floor, with friendly staff and diners. |
